Covenant Q & A
How can I become a member of Avalon Church?
If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, you can come into covenant with Avalon Church. Because we want you to understand exactly what you are becoming a part of, we require those who want to be in covenant with Avalon Church to participate in an evening called Dinner With The Pastor, which occurs once a quarter. It's an informal time on Sunday night at 5pm for you to eat a free meal, hang out with other people that are also new to Avalon, and to ask any questions that you have about our church and who we are as a community. During this time, Pastor Ritchie will share with you about the history of our church, what we believe and value, and what you can do to get connected to our community. Childcare is provided. To sign up for the next Dinner With The Pastor or find out more, please e-mail us at avalon@avalonchurch.net, and someone will contact you with more information.
What is expected from those that are connected to Avalon Church?
We believe that the Christian life is supposed to be simple but not simplistic. Jesus boiled all the commandments of the Bible down to two things; loving God and loving people. It is our intention to follow Jesus' design of simplicity rather than the Pharisee's plan of burdensome complexity. So our process for reaching people and developing fully-devoted followers of Christ is embodied in the words Identify, Invest, Involve, and Invite. These words describe the discipleship plan at Avalon Church. We believe in order to be a true disciple of Christ you must identify with Christ through salvation and baptism and identify with a local church by coming into covenant, which is simply a relationship based on love. You also have to invest. Investing is a two-way street. God invests His resources into you when you read the Bible and you invest into God's kingdom by giving your time and resources through the local church. A third component of discipleship happens when you involve yourself with other believers. This happens by attending worship experiences, by serving in a ministry, and by connecting with friends in a small group. Invite simply means that we believe we all have a responsibility to invite other people to Christ. Avalon people have a heart for investing time and love into others and inviting them to church. But we do not stop there. We also invite them to serve with us in a ministry so that they too can be mentored and trained to become a fully-devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
What if I'm not sure if I am a Christian or have never made a conscious decision to become a believer?
The decision to become a Christian is the most important thing you'll ever have to decide. If you're not sure if you have, or would like to be certain, please see the page entitled Are You A Christ Follower! You'll learn how others have come to experience a personal faith in Jesus Christ because God had a special plan for them...and for you, too.
I already participate in Avalon Church, why should I become a part of the faith family?
While you may choose to participate on a regular basis without becoming a full part of the Avalon Church faith family, you'll miss the joy and accountability that comes when you formally and officially say, "This is my church family. I want everyone to know that this is where I'm planting my life as a believer." Becoming a dynamic part of Avalon Church.
